We're just completing our first unit while students were getting immersed in French and adjusting during the first month of school in the Fall season. Now we will step into our second unit to discover "HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES" (for the JK) and "WHERE WE ARE IN TIME AND PLACE" for the rest of students.

Central Idea: "Imagination helps us to create and share our stories".
Inquiries:
-How costumes can help me to create different stories?
-How expressions and non verbal actions can contribute to make a story?
-Who or what do I want to be? What is my favorite role and part in the story?

Central Idea: "Families around the world celebrate a variety of holidays and traditions".

Words for spelling are written on Mondays at school; students from Grade 3 and up should practice at home by filling up the empty columns on their notebooks.

Normally, on Mondays students should be taking home their notebooks and their previous test to be signed by one of their parents.

Please send their notebooks and Duo Tangs in a Ziploc bag as soon as they're done with assignments and also, make sure that your child did bring SIX Duo Tangs according to their correspondent colors. A French- English Dictionary is recommended at home.

We had a great first week of school! To launch the year with the JK / SK students we sang welcome songs: Bonjour les amis!. On the other hand, we discussed responsibilities, routines and good manners at school with Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3) and we challenge Upper Elementary (Grades 4 and up) into more French interactions that review grammar and several questions.

In the IB (International Baccalaureate) program, our transdisciplinary theme is "Who Am I?" I will be driving the following inquiries that are based according to the Central Ideas of each grade.

JK:

Central Idea: "My personal and physical characteristics make me unique".

Inquiries: -How do I differ from others?

-How can I describe a person in French?

-How can I take care of myself and develop my own characteristics?

VOCABULAIRE DE BASE: Les Parties du Corps (Body parts) et La Nourriture (Food).

SK:

Central Idea: "We use our 5 senses to discover and interpret our self and the world around us"

Inquiries: -What are the five senses in French?

- How can the 5 senses guide me to express my feelings and basic needs in French?

LES CINQ SENS: 1.La vue (Je regarde), 2.L'ouïe ( J'écoute), 3.L'odorat (Je sens), 4.Le toucher (Je touche), 5.Le goût (Je goûte).

Grades 1/ 2:

Grades 6/7/8:

Central Idea: "All countries in the global community are made of different elements that are essential to their success".

-What's the importance of learning French in our global world?

-What makes the Francophone places different from others around the world?

Dear Parents,

In the FSL (French program as a Second Language), the main purpose is to emerge the student into a new language and a new culture.

Through recognition and understanding, children begin the requirements and process of a second language. Therefore, it is very important to focus in class in order to follow the dynamics in class.

Children learn instinctively without big concerns or frustrations; consequently parents may help their kids by giving them encouragement and use of resources such as dictionaries, their favorites books, T.V. shows, …that may be even available for free in our closest libraries. As kids are unique; they will be accommodated according to their own capacities by following the school curriculum.

Learning a new language and exploring a new culture helps students integrate into a multicultural society.

My main purpose is to guide with a positive attitude that establishes a lifelong joy of learning French.
